"My friends and I joked that our major at the academy was Acting Not As an Occupation 101," he remembered. "I thought it would help me become a lawyer or something, help me speak in public. That's how I looked at that school." A perfect book to share with children to teach them that we are all different and have our own personal flaws. Unfortunately, an unexpected situation occurred and he no longer felt he had the courage to leave outdoors without his disguise. But to his surprise he was very much missed by everyone. They knew he loved this wonderful event and they opened their hearts to Rumple. Hearing what everyone had to say about their appearance and how different they were made Rumple feel he was accepted and loved. Gubler is at home in this new nook of his artistic world, even as he questions the label. “I take it as a great compliment that people think of me as a children’s book writer,” he says. “But I’ve never really thought of my books as kids’ books; they’re less ‘books for young readers’ and more ‘books for young hearts.’” This is especially true, he says, for Little Kid. “Kids already know the message. It’s the adults who may have forgotten it. So this one’s for kids to read to their parents.”
