About this deal

I know there's going to be enough light and I know it's going to make sun-drenched scenes look great.

Kodak Ektar is a professional color negative film introduced in 2008, designed for nature, outdoors, fashion, and product photography. A shorter close focus distance allows birdwatchers to observe small details on nearby birds, and is especially important for insect observation. Muddy colors are difficult to work with, however, if you’re going for a pastel/washed-out look, you can work with overexposing Kodak Ektar 100. I can see portra as a natural skin tone film whereas Ektar works well as an alternative to higher saturation slide films; I’m expecting higher dynamic range. Continuing this obsession, I decided to combine the two treatments of yellow and blue by taking a roll of medium format Ektar to a brick railroad bridge crossing over the Delaware River. In one of my previous posts I mentioned some dots in the scans of my photos of Curacao, and AG photolab printed a few of those photos to check the negatives. And since I started scanning myself I noticed dark negatives are more difficult to scan too, so I plan to shoot closer to box speed next time. If you are confident in your scanner software and your post-production skills, this film should give you no trouble. Hi Brendan, Portra 400 seems to work fine with 2-3 stops overexposure, and it gives me some margin not to underexpose. Whether you're shooting landscapes, portraits, or everyday moments, Ektar medium format film will bring your photos to life with its stunning colour reproduction and excellent exposure latitude.

I have mixed Ektar and Portra 400 in a single project, and with scanning and appropriate colour correction (given the vagaries of colour in scanning. I used this film in a basic point and shoot (mainly to test if my old camera was still working) and I absolutely loved how the pictures came out!

Ektar lives in a world between two films: Professional negative film like Portra and slide film like Ektachrome. Great for bright sunny day landscapes where you can take advantage of the film's super fine grain using fast lens settings (see windy wheat field pic attached) but still achieving an impressive depth-of-field.
