About this deal

And they marry perfectly the manga style with the feel of Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss’ TV adaptation with its modern-day touches. While there's nothing like actually holding a book in your hands, there's also no denying that the cost of those books can add up quickly. There have since been Manga interpretations of all the first Star Wars episodes by a variety of artists like Toshiki Kudo, Kia Asamiya, and others.

For example, the bored Sherlock of the opening pages, in a queer humour similar to that described in The Musgrave Ritual, shoots holes in the wall of his flat. have all been waiting to get to: The Great Game, the first of at least three occasions in which the Sherlock production team have approached The Final Problem. So is the great boy detective L in Death Note – who has Light as his Moriarty – and the pint-sized Detective Conan, whose name is filched from Sherlock’s creator. However, when a serialisation averages around 32 pages per chapter, as this one does, you can afford to pause for a moment as John gazes sadly at his walking stick or at the empty page of his blog (the point of this scene, after all, being that nothing ever happens to him) or as Sherlock slowly cracks a smile. The manga series has previously been released in Japan during 2012, serialized in the Young Ace magazine, with issues being translated into English. Of course, anyone who has seen Sherlock will already know the identity of ‘M’, but to the uninitiated he is cunningly introduced, seeming more like a master criminal than anything else. The best reason not to be shy about your fandoms is that, if your friends know what you like, they think of you when they come across oddities like this. It’s still dynamic and full of action, but compared to American comics, there’s often a quietness and reflectiveness about manga.

When a comic is 22 pages, as Western comic books often are, the story needs to develop quickly, otherwise nothing much will have happened by the time the issue is over. On the other hand, Detective Inspector Lestrade is sometimes hard to distinguish from John, while Mrs Hudson doesn’t look much like Una Stubbs – but is nevertheless unmistakable due to her personality and location. At Anime NYC 2023, Anime News Network had the opportunity to sit down with the voice actor Kazuki Ura, the voice of BLUELOCK's main protagonist Isagi, and Ryoya Arisawa, the producer of the hit sports anime BLUELOCK.

Out in June, Sherlock: A Study in Pink adapts the BBC series, which started in 2010, transforming Benedict Cumberbatch’s Holmes and Martin Freeman’s Dr John Watson into classic manga images. Beautifully illustrated but the comic version feels very flat and the characters paper thin compared to the show.

Much of Sherlock‘s appeal was its distinct cinematography and visual effects and, unfortunately, most of that has been lost in this adaptation. But on the other hand, perhaps the fact that he has become more than a character, that he’s an icon, might help ease his mind. Sherlock: A Study in Pink parts 1-3, is now available from Titan Books in paperback and Kindle editions. If we went around the moon or round and round the garden like a teddy bear, it wouldn’t make any difference. This allows time to include every line of dialogue from the television scripts, as well as moments of quiet reflection, especially from the baffled and traumatised John. Judging by the first 40-page instalment of “A Study in Pink,” it’s Martin Freeman’s Watson who gets the better deal so far.
