As David is driven away, he looks back to see two agents (Monty Warren and Cyril Cross) speaking with Melnicker. Directed by the BAFTA-nominated Cy Endfield, whose credits include Zulu and Hell Drivers, Hide And Seek also stars Oscar winner Hugh Griffith, Bond villain Curt Jurgens and Golden Globe-winning British actress Janet Munro; the film is presented here in a brand-new transfer from the original elements, in its as-exhibited theatrical aspect ratio.

Carmichael is a physicist who supposedly possesses a great talent which is desirable by all cold war players. The ill-fated Janet Munro is quite charming as the female bait used to trap Ian Carmichael's scientist. The Russian is working with shady businessman Marek and they plan to kidnap the professor and make it look as though he has defected to the Soviet Union. There are shades of Alfred Hitchcock’s man on the run tales here (especially The 39 Steps, which the basic structure loosely resembles), sharing a similar sense of wry humour that runs throughout the story, an ever-so-slightly winking sensibility enhanced by the amount of comedy actors making up the supporting cast.

Kieron Moore, who had a real talent for darkly smooth and menacing characters, appears but is underused. Not exactly the Ministry of Defence, this is the entrance to the Anatomy Building of University College London on Gower Street. Maggie tells Garrett to meet her at the train station, where she convinces him to board the train with her.

Alongside him is the lively Janet Munro, and the two make enjoyable company as the plot carries off rather well. I remember him saying Zulu was the greatest film ever made…it might have been said partly tongue in cheek, but it was one of his favourite films.
