While a day of use isn’t bad, mid-range phones often have fantastic battery lives, so the A53 feels a little limited. There were only a few days when we almost ran out of power while out and about, but that was enough to give us a sense of battery anxiety. The camera set-up looks fairly promising from the specs sheet. Led by a 64-megapixel main camera sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, there are three accompanying lenses including a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens, a 5-megapixel macro camera, and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. It’s large too, measuring in at 6.5-inch diagonally across. Moreover it is cat in Gorilla Glass 5, so it should offer significant resistance to the bumps or scuffs that any smartphone screen is exposed to in daily usage over time. The A53 5G is a decent performer in the GFXBench Manhattan 3 tests, too, providing a 40% improvement over the previous A52 5G in the onscreen benchmark. Games should run significantly faster as a result, although don’t expect to be pumping out enough frames to get the most out of the display’s maximum 120Hz refresh rate. The Galaxy A53 5G uses the same combination of cameras as the previous model, with a quad-camera array on the rear, consisting of a 64MP (f/1.8) main camera with OIS, 12MP (f/2.2) ultrawide, 5MP macro and 2MP depth sensor. Now on to video: you can shoot 4K video at 30fps or 1080p at 60fps on the rear cameras, but also on the front cameras. It’s rare to see a phone that offers that kind of high-res recording on the front snapper. There’s also slow-motion and ‘Super Slow-Mo,’ which does exactly what it says on the tin. This was particularly pronounced when we first started testing the phone, but it diminished over time. If you’re reading this review after just buying the thing, don’t worry – things will get better. Still, we admit that after weeks of using the A53, it still felt slower than we would have liked. And speaking of slow things, the phone itself drags from time to time. It didn’t stop us from doing what we needed to do on the phone, but frequently, the device stuttered, with apps freezing or scrolling slowing – more so than on other handsets at this price, which is why we raise the issue.
A Futuristic Processor
Both the Galaxy A53 5G and the Galaxy A33 5G have a lot in common when it comes to their internal workings and design. The phone’s ultrawide images are also a bit weak. The benefit of squeezing more stuff in the frame comes with the caveat of an increase in grain and a noticeable loss of detail. It’s a big handset, with a 6.5in display and narrow bezels, and I particularly liked the way the rear camera housing blends neatly with the rest of the phone.
Memory size - User memory is less than the total memory due to storage of the operating system and software used to operate the phones features. Thankfully, video capture is excellent.
