About this deal

We're going to report on the UI and the new programs in the Sendo X over the next week or so, but for the meantime, the X is almost the perfect smartphone.

In the UK the first products should be offered through Virgin Mobile. Sendo was founded in August 1999 with an initial $10m of funding from Hong Kong telecoms company CCT. Microsoft's dalliance with cellphones is interesting for a couple of reasons. Firstly, because phones are morphing into a computer platform of great social value in unimaginably great volumes, only they're pouring into a terrain, a business that Microsoft doesn't yet own or fully understand. Microsoft was clever enough to understand that volume economics worked, when Bill Gates with great foresight engineered the PC DOS license. So Microsoft understands volume economics. That we know. As the cost of buying licences and building the next generation of mobile networks adds up, mobile operators are looking for anything that will give them an edge. And since Sendo unveiled its first prototype phones late last year, many of the leading names among the world's 400 or so mobile operators have been seen beating a path to Sendo's cramped offices in Birmingham's Small Heath business park to find out more.Games programmers are going to be interested in two things. The Java programemrs will want to know that the Sendo X is using MIDP1.0 (not 2.0) which keeps it on a par with the N-Gage. There are a few new API's that Sendo have included for the programmers. And as previously mentioned, the C++ programmers can take advantage of the two co-processors, without having to alter their code. A Whole Bundle of Accessories

Now, remember that Microsoft had no business relationships with carriers as a handset provider, while Sendo staff were pretty well versed in what to do. This, Sendo alleges, is what Microsoft's "Master Plan" was all about. As it claims: Kewney, Guy (30 June 2005), "Mobile", Sendo: why it went titsup— Motorola’s Sendo takeover: Takeover may give Motorola a higher European profile, UK: The Register, archived from the original on 20 October 2011 , retrieved 28 October 2011 Sendo haven't stopped at just designing a killer phone, they've got a whole bundle of accessories to help you get the most from the phone. Many promotions and great discounts at SenMall booth such as: Rohto, Loreal, Anker, Sony, Senka, Sunhouse, JBL, Xiaomi, Logitech, Triumph, Unilever... The still camera takes pictures at the regulation 640x480 (only beaten by the Nokia 7610), but has two advantages. The first is the 4x Digital Zoom, which is pretty smooth and an improvement over the first and second generation Series 60 devices. The second is the big one. We've got a flash on the camera.

Sendo P220

What about Mac Users? Well, Apple's iSync is pretty good at handling other Series 60 phones, so I'd expect the same with the Sendo X. Now if only I can find someone to test it for me... Document Viewer But only time will tell if the Sendo way of designing and delivering mobile handsets works well enough for Mr Brogan and his team to be glad they gave up secure jobs at big, established companies. "The risk is that I could potentially be in the same place I was two years ago," says Mr Brogan. "And the upside is the chance to do something really quite exciting and to make something happen." Sendo's solution is to offer operators customised phones that can be ready for retail shelves months ahead of their bigger rivals. Because of a unique manufacturing process that starts in China and is completed in Holland, Sendo phones can be made in different colours and in different shapes, with the operator's brand and special buttons, as well as embedded software for graphics, games and ringing tones, all bespoke for each operator.
