About this deal

Hard to tell. While it certainly doesn’t disturb my daughter when she’s asleep, there’s no real way of me knowing whether the Groegg2 helps to calm her down.

Rachel: This really does a simple job of telling you the room temperature, but there is something satisfying about having the colour glow “scale”. I’m comparing that to a thermostat in my hallway, which technically does the same thing but is very boring! It made my life easier to an extent, it’s a peace of mind always being aware of the temp of the room is and therefore how to dress my baby. I would describe it as a nice, but not necessary, gadget. My criticism comes as my flat it very hot, so the Groegg always glowed bright red for ‘danger your room is too hot’, but there is very little I could do. Once I knew it was always glowing red it became useless. I imagine in a cooler house, that may feel the temperature dips, its going to have more longevity.

This thermometer is powered by a USB cable* so there’s no need for expensive batteries (*excludes adaptor plug but compatible with most USB plugs used as phone chargers) Fiona: This is the only easy product on the market that I know that does this particular job. It provides the temperature and a light so an excellent accessory for the child’s room. The colours are well chosen for demonstrating the temperatures and actions needed. It is easy to set up and I like the design and shape. What changes would you make to this product?

It also changes colour depending on the temperature, to red for when it's getting too warm, and blue when it's getting cold Can the Groegg2 be powered by batteries? A: No, the Groegg2 needs to be connected to a power source using the included AC power adapter. It doesn’t have a battery option for power. It's a simple to use, colour-coded model that lets you clearly see if the temperature is too hot, too cold or just right. How does the Groegg2 Digital Room Thermometer work? A: The Groegg2 uses a digital temperature sensor to measure the ambient temperature of the room. It then displays the temperature on its LCD screen, allowing you to easily monitor the temperature in real-time. Is the Groegg good? The Gro-Egg includes a lot of features that give me confidence that my child’s room is at a safe temperature for sleep. It’s also really easy to use because all you have to do is plug it in!

How we tested the Groegg2

If a baby gets too warm, there's an increased risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), also known as cot death. A room thermometer will help monitor the nursery's temperature and give parents peace of mind, and many models can be used to measure bath water too, so you only need to buy one thermometer to serve both purposes. Fiona: It is an excellent product for providing some safeguarding information. It provide easy information for how to dress the child at night, a time at which you are always understandbly nervous as to how to dress them. The colours also provide a night light to give a small section of light to use at night. So as a product to make life easier as a mum I would thoroughly recommend it. Would you recommend this product to other parents? That might feel rather chilly to you, but overheating is linked to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) or cot death, so it’s better for the nursery to be on the cooler side. Worried about your baby getting too hot in bed and also the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)? As mum to a now 14-month-old, I’ve been able to test the Groegg2 out in my own home, using it consistently for naps and during the night to monitor the temperature in my daughter’s room. I have also taken it with me for overnight stays at her grandparents’ house. A lot of baby monitors do have the same functions on them as the Gro-Egg, however, if you don’t use a baby monitor – if your child sleeps in with you at night, or if your baby monitor doesn’t have an inbuilt thermometer then this would be a great product for you. What’s the difference between Gro Egg and Gro Egg 2 thermometers?

How accurate and consistent is the Groegg2?

Having used a free thermometer given by the health visitor, I wasn't 100% convinced on its accuracy. Some products also change colour as a warning if the temperature in the room suddenly gets too warm or cold. Tested it out last night and it’s fab - I’d definitely recommend as hubby especially loves it, which means he’ll pay full attention, which I think he might have forgotten with a standard thermometer. Bought one but never used it as the baby monitors had the temp on so just went by this, ended up giving mine away x
