About this deal

I however was determined to have him off the bottle by 12 months. This is what I tell everyone else to do, so I better practice what I preach. I however realize that this is not possible for all children especially those with Down syndrome. Step 2: Let your baby open their mouth and lean in to accept the straw, then give a little squeeze to the cup, which will express a small amount of the liquid into your baby’s mouth. Most babies will respond by immediately sealing their lips to swallow, which helps them learn to close their lips around the straw. Last summer, I invested in these cups for my two youngest kids to use when we’re outside in the summer, and they are totally awesome. They are easy to drink from, keep liquids cool, and are easy to clean. Do make sure to clean the straw often (as in take the straw off the base and clean it with the little brush it came with!).

We recommend slowly weaning off of a bottle. This slow wean may take anywhere between one to six months depending on when this process is started and how well your baby adapts to this transition. I followed your advice and my son with DS started drinking from a straw cup at 10 months. He’s now 20 months old and I’m trying to get him off the straw and on a regular open cup. I’ve tried a few special ones (camocup and avent) and regular plastic cups, but he’s not interested. Your baby is not increasing solid food intake or not taking water or milk in a cup despite reducing breast or bottle-feeds As your child progresses, they may be ready for a “real” water bottle or “big kid” cup! These larger cups and water bottles are great for daycare, preschool or the diaper bag because they’re less likely to leak and hold more liquid.MagicHave tried getting my 9 month old to drink from a straw cup awhile now, but she just chews on the straw. Heard someone raving about these cups, so I gave them a shot. I didn’t think they’d be any different from all the other cups (I mean, how different can cups really be). I was wrong. Within 2 tries, my daughter was drinking from the cup as if she had been doing it for years. Could it have been just a coincidence? Maybe. Still great cups. The don’t make a mess when she flings them around, so that’s a bonus.

Use a straw that provides a little more resistance and a slower flow so baby has to "work" at it a bit more. Ideally, this encourages baby to close their lips more forcefully around the straw, thus helping keep the liquid inside the mouth. The Munchkin weighted straw cup is a good one for this kind of practice (our product suggestions are never sponsored).

Come back when you're older

When choosing an open cup, we recommend using a small cup that’s easy for baby hands to hold. Since you’ll be dealing with many, many spills, look for a cup that holds no more than 1-3 ounces. A small cup also makes it less likely that your baby will flood themselves with liquid. There are many cups on the market that fit this description, but a shot glass or small glass yogurt cup will do just fine, too! The winner of straw cup show down however was the Take & Toss Straw Cups . They do not have a valve and are surprisingly spill proof (although they do not survive drops to the floor as well as others. William, 6 months, learns to drink from the ezpz straw cup. I still need a sippy cup. What’s the best sippy cup for my baby? If you are attempting to start teaching your child straw drinking on a conventional straw cup, but are unsuccessful consider using the Honey Bear Cup. The following can be referenced as a system for gradual exposure. 1. Initial Presentation:
