About this deal

From the #1 Sunday Times bestselling author of the Caraval series, the first book in a new series about love, curses, and the lengths that people will go to for happily ever after.

i believe there are far more possibilities than happily ever after or tragedy. every story has the potential for infinite endings.'plot and writing and just everything about how this is structured feels really juvenile. if this is YA it's like starter YA, barely out of middle grade. that's not necessarily bad but i expected something less immature. this point does get better in the last 25% though.

I normally don’t like third person POV but with Stephanie’s writing I actually enjoyed it. It felt true to actual story telling — full of enchantment and intrigue. This had magic, curses, a prophecy, immortal fates, vampires (barely), spells and potions and it focused almost entirely around the idea of hea but at what cost. I've been waiting and waiting... and waiting, for the right words to come out of my mouth and splatter across the keyboard, to describe all the different emotions this book brought out of me. Anyway I hope he will have a bigger role in the future. I actually think he and Ev can have a really nice friendship if given the chance. The book’s plot follows no clear structure; it’s all over the place. Sure, there’s a little bit of “action” but that does nothing to redeem a story that is 99% Boring and 1% Interesting Scenes. There were numerous attempts at romantic scenes throughout the book, but Evangeline has no real chemistry with either of her potential love interests (one of them is literally cursed to be in love with her, so there’s that), so it did nothing for me and I skimmed read most of them. The writing is not that bad but tbh it's not special either. I've heard people say it's quite beautifully written and maybe it was like that for them- but it came across as ordinary to me. I was more invested in it cause of the main characters and the storyline.

Customer reviews

Have you already forgotten the way heartbreak rips apart the soul piece by piece, how it turns you into a masochist, making you long for the thing that just eviscerated you until there’s nothing left of you to be destroyed?” A sugar-crusted, poison-spiked romp through a vibrant world of fairy tale intrigue, tangled romance, and forbidden magic’ Cassandra Clare, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Last Hours The book ends on a cliffhanger. It’s somewhat intriguing, but I certainly won’t be reading the sequel. If for whatever reason, after reading this review, you’re still inclined to read Once Upon a Broken Heart, you might want to hold off on doing so until the sequel is out, as this will leave you with too many loose plot threads and unanswered questions – more than any book should. Enchanting and mysterious’ Renée Ahdieh, New York Times bestselling author of The Wrath and the Dawn If you haven't gotten tired, you could continue reading for more fangirling bouts and insanity talk!
