About this deal

I have 7Artisans 50mm f/0.95 lens, and I can tell you it seems even a tad brighter than my Mitakon 35mm f/0.95, and that one is pretty much considered to be as advertised, so I would assume 7Artisans is in the ballpark as well. The TTArtisan offers slightly better (still not great) flare resistance and the build quality inspires more confidence. Thanks Bastian, for this excellent review (as we have come to expect from this blog). Having had my eye on the Mitakon for a long time, I was waiting on the edge of my seat for this review since I first learned about the existence of this lens, somewhere in the comments on this very blog. From the get-go, I was a bit disappointed in how soft the images looked at f/0.95, even in the viewfinder. The fact that I had a larger than usual EVF in the X-H2S could have something to do with this but for many of my sample images, I refrained from shooting the lens wide-open. However, already at f/1.4, there are visible improvements.

TTArtisan 35mm F0.95 Large Aperture Manual Lens, Compatible

When stopping the lens down you can still catch all kinds of ghosts and also some rainbow artifacts with the sun close to the corner of the frame: Sony A7rII | TTArtisan 50mm 0.95 | f/8.0This is a very different lens as it is not optimized to give smooth bokeh at maximum aperture but rather nervous bokeh with lots of field curvature. Does not fit my taste, but maybe the cheapest option to get a new very fast 50mm lens.

This is the experience i searched for when I bought the Pro 3, but Fujifilm didn’t take it all the way which make the pro 3 an X-T model with a Rangefinder design. 🙂 IMO, if all you are after is minimum DOF, then there is very little difference between f0.95 to f1.2-f1.4.. What is special about these lenses is their unique, very soft, "glowy" / dreamy rendering at max aperture / close distances.. If you are not interested in this character, then you would be better off with a f1.2-f1.4 lens. (Like the TTa 50mm f1.2)

Disclaimer: The text you will read below is based on my own thoughts and experience with my copy of the 7Artisans 35mm F0.95. The lens was bought as used but in mint condition. I’ve also bought an unbranded lens hood in aluminum, partly because it keeps the front glass element safer, but also because this lens has some major struggles with direct sunlight. I recommend everyone to buy a lens hood to get the best result out of the 35mm f0.95. AF wise, I can't comment much. I use it on an older X-T2, and don't use CAF; only simple small-point SAF for my shooting, and it works absolutely fine like that.. I loved the files from my pro 3, It has taken some time to learn the leica files. But I’ve used Fuji since I started so 🙂
