About this deal

Note: Expion360 will be incorporating a thermal cutoff switch in their generation 2 VPR PowerMod batteries, which will be available in the spring of 2020. If the thermal wraps are needed in your application, wrap each battery after the heating pads are applied to the batteries. The question: doesn’t having the temperature sensor in direct contact with the heading pad result in it detecting warmth too soon and shutting off? Maybe I don't even need the heating pad after the plywood and foam insulation is added raising the batteries off the cold steel floor.

If you’d like to measure the draw from the heat pad in itself, then yes, you want to wire the heat pad up to the load side of the shunt. I was toying with the idea of building a well insulated battery box inside the living area with perhaps locating the heat exchanger inside the box thus using the heat to help keep the chill off the batteries?

My thought is to pull the batteries out of the enclouser their in (keeps them moving) putting 1/4" piece of plywood on the bottom (maybe a thin piece of solid foam insulation under it), piece of felt on the plywood top, the heating pad normally would get stuck to a plastic holding tank/ water tank I was thinking of getting a piece of aluminum and sticking the pad to the bottom of it to tansfer the heat better, then putting a piece of felt on the top of aluminum with the batteries on top of that. In the jungle of different wire mats available on the market, it could be a time-consuming exercise to find the right silicone heaters for your project. Hi Ty, yes, the temperature sensor is to be sandwiched between the heat pad and the battery and there is no need for a fuse. Our Battle Born Batteries ship with 18-8 stainless steel 5/16 – 18 1” and 1 ¼’ bolts, brass washers and 18-8 stainless steel nuts with nylon inserts. I'm not even worried about the heat generated from them other than if it will stay on for a period of an hour or so without having it turn itself off being sandwiched in the design I'm thinking about.

Heat Pad with Battle Born Batteries How to Use a Heat Pad with Battle Born Batteries

Once you have stripped all four wires coming out of the heat pad and the additional four wires from the temperature sensor, you are ready to move on to the next step. I'm going to insulate the entire inside floor with foam board and put the rubber mat on top of it, along with pulling the batteries out again and adding the foam board under the rubber mat already in place. This morning I was preparing a glowing report on how well our new heat pad worked during our first 2 nights at 15 degrees.Placing a heating pad below the battery will eliminate the only face of six that is causing the low temperature problems. We also laid aside extra wire length, butt connectors (for crimping), ring terminals, 4-port push in wire connectors, and electrical tape (tape not required, but recommended). It is worth to note that control of the temperature should always be in place, and the safety margin applied as the maximum peak temperature for this silicone part should never exceed +300°C. Eric, one our expert sales technicians, walked us through the process of setting up a heat pad with our batteries. Bottom layer is Reflectix, middle layer is 1" R-Matte plus-3 (insulation board composed of a closed-cell polyiso foam core bonded to reinforced aluminum facers) R6 rating.
