In November 2019, Dexter Fletcher was hired to direct the film for Universal and Skybound Entertainment. Crew member Elmo Peoples said the vandals had stolen his insurance papers, two bank cards, and a laptop. There, two estranged sisters find their reunion cut short by the arrival of a group of demons who they must face off against if they want to survive.The film received mixed to positive reviews from critics, who praised the comedic tone and performances but criticized the screenplay and story. Kirkman later pitched a new version of the film, leaning more into the comedic aspects of the story, and the production rights were acquired by Skybound Entertainment. He hit the tone perfectly with this one, scary, funny, manipulative, honestly the perfect casting for this horror comedy. The official synopsis reads: “In this modern monster tale of Dracula’s loyal servant, Nicholas Hoult stars as Renfield, the tortured aide to history’s most narcissistic boss, Dracula (Nicolas Cage). Renfield, Dracula's henchman and inmate at the lunatic asylum for decades, longs for a life away from the Count, his various demands, and all of the bloodshed that comes with them.Well, in the spring of 2023, Nicolas Cage will join their ranks when he dons the cape in Renfield, the upcoming horror comedy about the iconic character’s henchman. The same Deadline report also pointed out that Renfield is based on a story written Robert Kirkman, the creative force behind The Walking Dead and Invincible, both the comics and TV adaptations. But when Gemma gains custody of her niece following a car crash that kills the girl’s parents, M3GAN takes her task a little too seriously, killing anyone who tries to come between her and her charge. Not much is known about the plot of MaXXXine yet, but it will continue the story of its predecessor, while still being easy to understand and enjoy independently of each other, according to director Ti West.
